Last year, John organized an unprecedented, corridor-wide strategic planning effort funded through a public-private partnership. This year-long, research-based initiative included 68 top leaders from Richmond-Hampton Roads’ Fortune 500 companies; city, county, and state governments; chambers of commerce; economic development agencies; institutions of higher education; workforce training organizations; four branches of military; and digital infrastructure owners (subsea cables, data centers, terrestrial networks, Internet exchanges, etc.). What resulted was the world’s first, community-inspired, strategic digital infrastructure growth plan that is now making an entire U.S. megaregion, not a city, one of the world’s next global internet hubs.
